From the time I learned to read, I’ve pretty much always had my nose buried in a book in my free time. I’ve been known to power through a novel per day on vacations, and am constantly on the hunt for a new tome to dive into. Enter Book of the Month Club, a subscription box-style book club dedicated to helping avid readers find great new fiction and non-fiction titles. Each month, the club offers a selection of five new hardcover books to its members. Books are selected and endorsed by a panel of judges, and members choose which book they would like to receive – similar to how the club originally operated when it began – way back in 1926. So with just a few clicks, I’m ahead of the curve and discovering new authors on a monthly basis.

The club actually has a tradition of focusing on debut and emerging writers, and is known for helping to launch the careers of some of the most acclaimed authors in American literary history. In 1926, the club featured Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. In 1936, the club selected Gone with the Wind by then-unknown author Margaret Mitchell. In 1951, the club distributed its 100 millionth book and selected J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, which became both the most-censored and the most-taught book in the United States.

As a lifelong, avid reader, I love being able subscribe to something that has been such a unique part of literary history. I mean, what other subscription boxes do you know of that have been around for almost a century?!

As I page through my March selections, I find myself wondering, Will this be the next great novel?

Want to get in on the literary action? Here’s how it works:

  • Each month, the club’s panel of judges selects 5 great new books. Selections are announced on the first of the month, and members can choose which book they would like to receive
  • All plans include: 1 hardcover book of your choice each month, and free shipping
  • Members can also add up to 2 books to their monthly box for $9.99 each
  • Membership plans start at $11.99/month
