As I inch ever-closer to the dreaded 3-0, I’ve found the elements of my wardrobe shifting ever-so-slightly towards elevated basics in neutral colors that can be mixed and matched. As someone who looks closer to 19 than 29, I sometimes need to put a little bit of extra effort into looking like a true adult, if you know what I mean. While there’s room in every closet for the whimsical and impractical, it’s nice to have a selection of flattering, everyday pieces with clean lines that you just know you can throw on and feel immediately grown up and put together. These wide-legged white pants are that perfect piece for me – the of-the-moment high rise fit, cropped hem, and wide leg silhouette make these pants anything but basic, and seem to flatter my narrow, lanky body type. White pants can feel flimsy, but the soft, yet sturdy material of these keeps everything looking smooth. As an added bonus, I’ve been able to wear them a few times between washes without having them lose their shape. I paired them with a trendy lace-trimmed cami and my most recent splurge – these Miu Miu ballet flats – but they look cute with everything from flip flops to sneakers to strappy sandals. These pants were my first foray into shopping at online retailer Everlane, and I am sufficiently impressed. Everlane believes in “radical transparency” and ethical sourcing – the brand does all of its design in-house and works directly with factories. Coupled with its lack of brick and mortar stores and refusal to spend money on advertising, this allows the brand to produce high quality pieces in classic silhouettes while keeping costs low. These pants, for example, would cost around $125 at a traditional retailer like a J. Crew, but cost only $68 from Everlane. The brand’s sleek minimalist vibe has me jonesing to just throw everything out and create a fully Everlane-inspired capsule wardrobe of elevated, everyday basics.
