Over the past decade, spring and summer have come to be known as “festival season” due to the rise in popularity of large-scale, multi-day music festivals. Festival season kicks off in March with South by Southwest in Austin, TX and really hits its momentum in April with Coachella in Indio, CA. The rise in music festivals has, in turn, lead to the rise in festival style. You can probably thank Instagram for this phenomenon – carefully curated photos of boho-chic girls with a desert sunset in the backdrop will be blowing up your social media feeds in just a few days when Coachella kicks off. Said festivals are rife with girls in cutoff shorts, crocheted tops, flower crowns, and so. much. fringe. The last festival I attended was probably the Great Googa Mooga or Governor’s Ball when I was still living in Brooklyn, but as you know, I’m a huge fan of everything boho-chic – so I’m 100 percent on board with the rise of festival style. I like to call this look “festival style-lite” – my romper and open-toed booties combo is lacking a flower crown and could be accented by a bit more fringe – but it’s my way of channeling the festival vibe for a regular night out.
