Heating Up

While May for the rest of the country means it’s finally time to feel some sunshine, May in South Florida means that it’s about to get very, very hot. I’m heading into my third Floridian summer, which I can’t even believe. Dressing for the heat can be tricky – I spent my first two summers basically living in cutoffs and breezy tank tops. Wearing the same thing every day can be boring, though, so I’m trying to spice things up a bit this summer. A breezy sundress like this one is the perfect solution. This little Faithfull the Brand number (in more colors and sizes here and here) is loose and lightweight, perfect for keeping cool. The ruffled overlay, stripes, and tassel details lend some added interest to the simple silhouette. I completed the look with my new favorite hairstyle – what I like to call lazy girl beach waves. Here are my steps to achieving the beach girl look with minimal effort:

  1. Spray wet hair with salt spray (I use this one)
  2. Braid wet hair into two braids (I did this in the morning and let it dry all day, but you can also do this before bed)
  3. Once hair is dry, comb out with fingers
  4. Touch up random sections with a wand (I’m really lazy about my hair, so I just use this inexpensive wand)
  5. Finish off with an anti-frizz spray (this one is my favorite – it keeps my hair smooth without weighing down my super fine strands)

Voila! Surfer girl-chic look: complete.

I love pinstripes (or stripes in general) for spring/summer. This dress is a great way to showcase this trend.
